Hatteras began their well known work building boats in 1959 produced its first sportfishing yacht, a 41-foot twin cabin, on March 22, 1960, in the town of High Point, North Carolina. Willis Slane envisioned building a boat that could conquer the rough waters and bad weather on the Atlantic. Slane broke with tradition by working with a then new material – fiberglass. The Hatteras sportfishing fleet expanded after the market demanded larger boats – first to 50-foot boats and now up to 101-foot convertibles. Hatteras also designs and produces a line of cruising yachts that ranges from 56 to 105 feet.
